If the appliance came with the apartment like a refrigerator or stove, then no. They are required to provide those to tenants.

I can’t think of any reason why you would ask this question if the appliance didn’t come with the unit. So landlord is required to pay for any replacements if it was part of the unit when you moved in. Some even
have a microwave in it and since it’s part of the unit, they have to replace that too when it breaks.
